He came fo fhe campus six years ago and from fhe firsf day has fhrown himself wholehearfedly info fhe ac- fivifies which 'lend foward beffermenf of fhe school, and in so doing has proven himself a man of which any school, fown or cify could feel iusfly proud. Dr. Sherwood wifh his keen insighf info human nafure, born only in frue leaders, has shown 'rime affer fime fhaf an execufive can sfill be human: fhaf a college presidenf does nof have fo assume pompous dignify fo hold fhe respecf and esfeem of fhose hundreds of undergraduafes who yearly come info close confacf wifh fhem. The man af fhe helm of Georgefown College is one of fhe Iivesf and mosf undersfanding of any of his illus- frious predecessors. He radiafes friendliness and many a freshman is made fo feel perfecfly af home immediafely affer being ushered info fhe presence of Dr. Sherwood. Thai fhis comradeliness never weakens is easily seen whenever Dr. Sherwood makes an appearance in chapel, or af ofher sfudenf gafherings. The spirif of Georgefown College, as 'Ihe resuli' of fhe presenl' presidenf, is being revivified 'Ihroughoui' 'Ihe sfafe. His abilify as an organizer, a leader, a friend of young people and a public speaker, has already been recognized in every secfion of Kenfucky. Hardly a week goes by buf fhaf some organizafion, be if here in Georgefown or in some ofher fown or cify, is nof asking for his service as ifs speaker. His business acumen far exceeds fhaf found in fhe average college head. This is affesfed by fhe facf fhaf during his adminisfrafion fhe debi' of fhe college has been reduced more fhan fiffy per cenf, Georgefown, as ofher smaller colleges, has ifs financial problem, buf adequafe planning under fhe leadership of Presidenf Sher- wood makes ifs solufion seem far less difficulf fhan if did iusf a few years ago. In a shorf span of years fhe widespread influence of Dr. Sherwood has been greafly felf. Sfudenfs fhis year and in fhose fo follow coming under his leadership will be be'H'er able fo meef fhe problems of life and fake fheir parf in acfivifies aimed af affaining a beffer balanced world. Georgefown College is forfunafe in having a man as Dr. Sherwood as ifs presidenf and fhe sfudenfs are proud of him. A sfudenf said fhis abouf him. We were sfanding in fronf of Euepian Hall. The sfudenf said simply, wifhouf furfher explanafion, This is Dr. Sherwood. The Iaffer smiled and shook my hand. From 'Ihe firsf, he made me feel af ease. He invifed me fo have a falk wifh him. When we came fo his office, which was fhen Iocafed in Pawling Hall, we passed fhe door marked Presidenf and enfered fhe side door. Affer we had been seafed, we 'lalked mosfly abouf Georgei-own College and fhe possibilify of my af- fending in 'Ihe fall. I was deeply impressed wifh fhe friendly, democrafic spirif of fhe man. In facf, I was almosf fempfed fo call him buddy, buf remembering fhai- a college professor was due respecf, I resfrained myself. Even af fhaf, I puf myself on equal I-erms wifh him, almosf, I fear fo fhe poinf of rudeness. Affer fhe inferview he walked fo fhe edge of fhe campus wifh me 'Io bid me 900CI'I3Ye- When I IGH. I remarked fo one of my high school feachers fhaf Dr. Sherwood was one of fhe mosf inferesfing persons fhaf I had ever mef. Yes, she replied, Dr, Sherwood has made Georgefown College an excellenf president Presidenf! I exclaimed. Do you mean fhaf I was falking fo fhe Presideni' of Georgefown College? The shock was foo greaf for me. I refused fo admii' 'io myself fhaf I had made such an error. Neverfheless if was frue.
