In Memory Of Jennifer Irene Ignacio (August 15, 1961-September 16, 1977) It is said that only the good die young. This certainly holds true for George Washington's student and Varsity Cheerleader, Jennifer Ignacio. She was only 16 years old when she died in an automobile accident on September 16, 1977, on the way to Washington's first var- sity football game. jeni was well liked by all those who knew her and loved by those who were close to her. Her death touched every student at Washington, even those who never had the pleasure of knowing her. The bulletin announcement, the moment of silence that was observed in her memory over KGW, the letters of sympathy sent to Washington from various schools and posted in the main hallway, showed those who didn't know her that she was a very special young lady. It is a football tradition for a team to dedi- cate the season and wear black bands on their jerseys when a member of the team passes away. This year's Varsity Football Team dedi- cated the season to Jeni. They wore black bands on their jerseys because she was a member of the team. During the Summer of '77 Jeni typed letters, ran errands, and looked up the eligi- bility of each player on the team. She never missed a pre-season passing league game. Jeni cheered her heart out for her Eagles and in return the Eagles football team played their heart out for their Jeni. Jeni will always be loved and missed by everyone, but no matter how many years pass, Jeni will never be forgotten ... Cheer on, Jeni, we'll always love you! 2
