WASHINGTON LOSES A FRIEND Surveyor '73 dedicates this bookto Robert Donovan, who was for fifteen years a history teacher at George Washington High School. Mr. Donovan died in November. Mr. Donovan knew and loved San Francisco and transmitted his feelings to his students in San Francisco History, a course taught only at Washington High School. He was also a specialist in Latin American Studies and spoke fluent Spanish. His many friends, including both faculty and students, will remember him warmly as a person whose enthusiasm brightened their lives. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati, he served in the United States Navy as a Radioman during World War II. His teaching career began in Oakdale, California, in 1952. In 1954 he transferred to San Francisco and taught four years at Benjamin Franklin Junior High School before transferring to George Washington High School. Mr. Donovan had a great love for music and often entertained with his fine dramatic tenor voice at public and social functions. He was a member of San Francisco Chorus, the San Francisco Opera Guild, and the San Francisco Symphony Associa- tion.
