Mr. Perino Graduates of June 1953, you were a wonderful class and George Washington High School will always be very proud of you. I am certain that whotever you do in life you will always strive to reflect honor and glory on that cherished school on the hill as other classes have done who have gone this way before you. Whatever you achieved at school will always be with you and will in part determine what you will be and will do in life. I hope you hove availed your- selves of as many opportunities as you possibly could during the last three years. Furthermore. I trust that you will continue to take advantage of the many opportunities for a successful life that await you in the adult world of which you will soon be a part. In parting, I want you to know that there are many discontented and unsuccessful people in this world who feel abused and dissatisfied with their lot but who do nothing to lift themselves. Success is achieved by those who are willing to work and work hard for it. Success will not come to you if you just wish and wait. Farewell, class of June 1953, may you always have a goal and may your lives be ever blessed with health and happiness. J. A. PERINO MR. J. A. PERINO Assistant Principal MISS MYRA GREEN Assistant Principal Miss Green My first year at George Washington is over. Was it a circus? Not exactly. Although there were times when I felt as if I were performing in all three rings at once. However, this typifies the exuberant spirit which is George Washington High School. Never a dull moment but how we love it! I am so glad to have this opportunity to say thank you to all the students and faculty for your gracious friendly reception of me. You made it im- possible for me to be a stranger in a strange land. I am indeed fortunate to have a part with you in this great school. MYRA GREEN 5

LILO WERTHEIM. Editor. O. I. SCHMAELZLE. Principol. MARCIA SAVIN. Editor Principal’s Message The theme for the Surveyor this year is rather unusual and clever. One could compare our school with a circus in that both require precision, cooperation and team work. Like a circus, our school has much going on at one time but unlike a circus we change personnel frequently. To this outgoing class we recognize the contribution that has been made for the welfare of our school. We appreciate it all. After you leave us we expect your performance to be a reflection on your training while here. May the applause from your efforts be great and gratifying. O. I. SCHMAELZLE Head Counselor Your high school career is the bridge between childhood and adult life. Each responsibility you hove successfully met has been a new pier sunk—a pier which strengthened your character and prepared you for future service. Now os you go on to college or to work there will be many opportunities for you to make use of the lessons learned in high school and many opportunities to serve your family, your fellow students and your community. May the best be yours in all this work as you approach your first bridge terminal. E. PARSONS MISS ELEANOR PARSONS Head Counselor
