Certainly he would be amazed to see the multitude of changes that have taken place since he guided the nation to freedom. To prove that nothing is impossible, the Surveyor has arranged a deluxe tour for our illustrious first president. Since his time with us will be short, we have planned to con- duct him about our own school introducing him to the adminis- tration and student body of dear old George Washington High and showing off our hard fighting athletes. We also hope to give him a quick glance into the various activities, clubs and organizations around the Hill- top. The dial of our time machine is set at I 798. Hold your breath. There it goes— Good day to you, Mr. Washington. May we welcome you on behalf of the students of George Wash- ington High School. Meet the ADMINISTRATION Meet the Administration MR. O. I. SCHMAELZLE Principal □ur Principal Confers With General George Washington u IF GEORGE WASHINGTON, the patron of our school, could walk into the principal s office. I would outline to him our policies and our endeavors. I would inform him that we believe in the popular American Creed that All men are created free and equal. Free means unrestrained only to the point where we interfere with the rights of others. Equal means the same privilege for all to take and enjoy the good things of life according to their ability. A pupil's ability is determined by the train- ing he gives his natural capacities. This training results in the forma- tion of various mental and physical habits. The high school age is the pre-eminent habit-forming period of life. No doubt the Father Of Our Country would leave the princi- pal's office with this bit of advice: High School is your golden op- portunity. Enter all its activities with the joyous consciousness that in this participation you are grow- ing and developing capacities that will open life in its greatest fullness. O. I. SCHMAELZLE. Fall Class History The Seniors of the class of fall 1947 have been outstanding in their various projects and have greatly contributed to school activities, produc- ing outstanding leaders and athletes during their terms at Washington. Their first projects were outside clean-up in the H-IO and inside clean-up in the L-1 I, both of these assignments were carried out very well. Orientation of new students, which is the induc- tion of new Washingtonians into the activities and customs, was the duty accepted by the class as H-11's. The cooperation of the entire school helped this class in their low senior year to carry out successfully a drive to collect money for veterans of government hospitals. In their last term at Washington the inspiring play, Cavalcade of American Music,' an original program that was produced and directed by Gabriel Plaa, the class president, was presented by the graduating Washington students; it earned the praise of being one of the finest piays ever produced at Washinqton. Spring Class History The Spring graduating class can look with pride on their record at Washington. Their en- thusiasm and cooperation in upholding Wash- ington standards and in adding to the spirit of the school were noteworthy. Planting trees in the Veterans' Memorial Court and keeping the grounds and sidewalks surround- ing Washington clean were the projects under- taken by the class in the high tenth grade; the next term the class took over the task of clearing the stairs, halls, and stadium. A Junior Day that will long be remembered was staged by the class when they were high elevens. Given on Valentine's Day, the pro- gram was woven around the court of the King and Queen of Hearts. An evening dance on Junior Day was initiated then. During the fall term of 1947 a football team composed mostly of members of this class played undefeated through the greatest football season in Washington’s history. To end their high school years the seniors had a Senior Game Day and presented The Hope of Humanity for their Senior Day; the program illustrated that the different peoples of the world can live in peace.
