ITORIAL There may have been many Times during our sojourn in high school when we TelT discouraged or annoyed, almosT To The poinT oT adding our own group of people and Things To Ko-Ko's lisT oT socieTy oTTenders who never would be missed, buT sTrangely enough, There is a poignancy in gracluaTion which erases all oT Those momenTs Trom our memories. AT commencemenT our high school days are raised To a level where peTTy disappoinTmenTs can no longer mar or discolor The brighTness OT Them. As The years pass They will become as precious as careTully guarded jewels: someThing To look back aT, Trom Time To Time, wiTh The mingled emoTions oT pleasure and envy. Our educaTion here has been more To us Than a cold cramming oT book knowl- edge. We have been developing characTer3 we have grown menTally and spiriTually as well as physically. We have learned The value oT menTal-alerTness, selT-conTrol, and inTegriTy. Our early self-consciousness has gradually Turned inTo The capaciTy Tor calm and inTelligenT inTrospecTion. We have become more open-minded, ToleranT, and sympaTheTic Toward our Tellow-man-no, iT is more Than ThaT, we have grown To respecT and admire him Tor whaT he is. We have known The saTisTacTion ThaT is To be derived Trom worThwhile achievemenTg we have seen The value oT a sense of humor noT only as a deTense-mechanism, or as a means oT adiusTmenT To circumsTances, buT also as an agency in creaTive enTerprise. We are aware OT The imporTance oT being happy, and oT making oTher people happy. Yes, we have learned inTiniTely more Than how To coniugaTe a French verb or To Tind The angle OT elevaTion OT a shadow caused by a chimney in The sun. We owe a greaT deal To our Teachers, The men and women who have so painsTakingly and Tirelessly Tried To mold our characTers and direcT The Tlow oT our inTeresTs and ambiTions inTo The Tiner channels in liTe. We are noT indiTTerenT To Their eTTorTs, and our graTiTude To Them is Tar greaTer Than These Tew words will allow us To demonsTraTe. We are graTeTul To our principal, Mr. Boylan, Tor his kindness, undersTanding, and generosiTy To us, and Tor The excellenr leadership he has displayed in supervising a school which has given us so much. LasT, buT noT leasT, we are graTeTul Tor The warm conTacTs and sincere Triends ThaT we have made here in high school. WiTh all oT These Things To look back on and remember, how can our memories OT George WashingTon High School ever be Tinged wiTh anyThing buT a glowing hap- piness and a proTound appreciaTion? 4
