, THE FACE DF 'Cl The Continental Staff, 1966, dedicates the memories contained with- in this book to five of the school's finest teachers, who are now retiring after fruitful careers at Washington. These five people are Mrs. Garner, Mrs. Catharine Madvig, Mrs. Elizabeth MacKinnon, Mr. Roy Potter, and Miss Helen Rollins. Mr. Ray Potter has spent 35 years as Washington's only physics teacher, helping prepare thousands of students for varied careers in ma- ior fields. He has given the school services as sponsor of campus pho- tography club, sponsor of the science club, and ten years science depart- ment chairman. He has a high opinion of all his students, and once aided four of them enter Cal-Tech in one year. He is devoted to his profession, and has served well not only himself and the school, but humanity itself. Miss Helen Rollins, climaxing 30 years of teaching here, has always been among the most active and intellectual persons of her profession. She is a qualified teacher of business education, Latin and English. She has sponsored the Commerce Honor society and Teen Toppers, and has aided many students attain goals in stenographic or secretarial positions. She, herself, has been greatly honored for exceptional speed and accu- racy in writing and transcribing shorthand. She loves to teach, because it is one of the most worthwhile professions of man. Mrs. Catharine Madvig is retiring after 38 cherishable years as an English teacher. She is presently chairman of our English department. She also enioyes her Creative Writing class. Her play, The Moors Legacy , based on an Arabian Night theme was written and performed at Wash- ington. She truely, has built her life around her students and the school. Mrs. Urania Garner has spent 20 years as a dedicated English and literature teacher. In addition, she has directed the Washington F.T.A. club for many years. She and her husband both have spent great careers devoted to the educational betterment of students. She holds a special pride in her profession and an active interest for teaching among youth. Mrs. Elizabeth MacKinnon, an English and drama teacher, is now been a school board consultant for drama, and has taken active parts in the city's Shakespearean Festivals, For many years, she led Washington's amateur actors through the Thespian Club. She has a distinguished back- ground, and is tremedously proud of her profession.
