PURBWURD The past has shaped the present, and history repeats itself. Evidence of this is everywhere today, especially in the world of fashion. The l'0ld Look of the nineties has become the New Look of the forties. lnspired by this throwback to an earlier era in women's fashions, the Con- tinental staff has selected Gay Ninetiesl' as the theme for the 1948 yearbook. Since pictures are of prime importance in a yearbook, we have attempted to create a New Look photographic- ally by reviving the f'Old Look of the family album. Old time song titles have been used here and there in the copy to develop further the Gay Nineties flavor. Inside the pages of this old fashioned memory book you will see modern blades and belles, and you will find reminders of all phases of school life, the whistle that marked the end ofa victorious football season, the orches- tra that played 'Goodnight Ladies at one of the sport dances, and the laugh sensation that Best Foot Forwardn became. When one attempts to revive the old, one cannot wholly escape being influenced by the new. Therefore, this book, though executed in part in the manner of a bygone era, has much in it that is streamlined and modern. We hope you will like this combination of the old and the new.
