SENIORS SALUTE DEAN THURMOND The 1970 Senior Class of George Washington High School wishes to salute Mr. Arnold Thurmond, Dean of Monroe House. He is a graduate of Du Bois High School in Mt. Hope, West Virginia, Hampton Institute, Hampton, Virginia, and Wayne College, Detroit, Michigan with a B.S. and a M. Ed. Our first contact with him was in 1966, when he came to G. W. as our freshman guidance counselor. At this post, he became familiar with the needs of the student and of the school. As we rose to better things, so also did he. In September 1967, he became Dean of Monroe House, where he has remained ever since. As Dean of Monroe House, Mr. Thurmond has successfully dealt with each of the many problems referred to him. The Senior Class, as well as the COMPASS staff, would like to thank Mr. Thurmond for all the time and effort he has put in to make our four year stay at G.W. a really great one.
