The microscopic world of the amoeba and the hydra reveals some of nature's most fascinating and inti- mate secrets. Formulas and experiments hold the key to man's world of the future. By stimulating an interest in science and by encour- aging students to use their inherent abilities, the Science Club, which is federated with thousands of other clubs in Science Clubs of America, hopes to make the student aware of his universe and to develop a desire in the student for pursuing scientific knowledge. Scientific ideas are brought into focus through field trips, Bell Telephone Company films, trips to Chapel Hill, and programs with guest speakers. In the spring of the year the Science Fair, which is the club's most important project, was held as usual. Superior Scientific Scholarship SCIENCE DEPARTMENT Test tubes are agitated, formulae perused, and equa- tions frantically completed by would-be Einsteins in chem- istry and physics classes, The botanists and zoologists of tomorrow intently probe the worlds of the fungi and the planaria. To increase and take full advantage of evident en- thusiasm in science, the Science department has added new courses. A Physical Science Study Committee class in physics is being taught for the first time. This pres- entation of physics covers more material and affords each student opportunity for individual advancement and experimentation. Other courses now under consideration for adoption are Chemical Bond and a class planned according to the Biological Science Committee Study. All students are required to take two years of science which will furnish them with basic scientific knowledge. A solid founda- tion is provided the students who wish to pursue a scien- tific career. i f I f I M FACULTY MEMBER in charge for the day's work is Mr. Norman Haar.
