Director GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT Helping students arrange schedules and advis- ing prospective collegiate scholars are two of the Guidance department's major roles in the aca- demic life of G.W. Guidance teachers constantly lend an understanding ear to all crises great and small, academic and personal. They have become experts at reducing mountains to molehills. The educational, vocational, and personal serv- ices of the Guidance department help the student not only to explore opportunities open to him, but also to better understand himself. Students are encouraged to solve their own problems and to make wise choices based upon an understanding of their aptitudes, limitations, and interests. College boards are administered each year by the department. As a .special convenience to the students, this department arranges for some twenty colleges such as Mary Baldwin, University of Vir- ginia, Duke, and William and Mary to send repre- sentatives to G.W. As an additional service to the student body, the guidance office places, in stra- tegic areas in the school, displays which help stu- dents in the choice of a career. In addition to regular class testing, numerous tests are given to all are valuable in the guidance of students for their course of study classes by .the guidance department during the year.
