 Voss Neal and Betty Gard- ner represent the school’s choice as Mr. and Miss Cav- alier, who in this scene take our minds back over the sands of time to the bygone age of early Virginia. We see the Cavalier couple as they step in after a tiresome jour- ney to read a letter by the roaring fire.

Jwetoorct As our eager eyes search for the lofty aims of life, which seem ever just beyond our reach, we are buoyed up by the hope that surges within us, the hope that some day we may take our place by the great citizens of the world. Ours is a world, the future of which we ourselves deter- mine by the influence of our leadership, our character, and our qualities of citizenship. It is a world built by the ceaseless toils of our fore- fathers, colored and enriched by the courageous, adventure- some spirit of the Virginia Cavalier. We are determined to attack our problems with a simi- lar fortitude, and pray that we may carry on with as much fervor, dignity, and resourcefulness.
