THE CLASS HISTORY In 1959, we, the students of the 1963-64 graduating class of Carver High, started out as frightened, but excited eighth graders. At that time Carver seemed like a gigantic place, but as the years progressed, it seemed more and more like a second home. Since we were only beginners at that time, our activities were very limited. Our eighth grade sponsors were Mr. Poole, Mr. Crossling, Mrs. Hubb, Miss Perkins, Mr. Billups, and Miss HtTobard. Our ninth and tenth grades went by very rapidly. Of course we began thinking seriously about our great junior year, for we were to sponsor the Junior-Senior Prom. These were indeed two hard-working years. We began sponsoring different activities which we felt were of interest to the student body and at the same time were beneficial to us. We had raffles, sold candy, sponsored trips for our students with the ball teams, and sold newspapers. Our ninth grade sponsors were Mr. Crossling, Mrs. Rempson, Mrs. Michie, Miss Perkings, and Mrs. Hubb. Our tenth grade sponsors were Mrs. Michie, Mrs. Rempson, Mr. Cheston, and Miss Perkins. Then came the eleventh year. We experienced both happiness and sadness in this year. Happiness, in that we were fortunate with our prom. We were very thrilled to see how appreciative the seniors were. We had for our theme Some Enchanted Evening. We were very thankful to have the Rocking Riffs perform for us on that night. We also crowned Miss Junior, Merle Humes. Everyone had a grand time. As is stated above, we experienced sadness this year. At the end of the school term our beloved Mrs. Michie retired. We knew that we would greatly miss her. So many of us had anticipated her being with us throughout our years at Carver. Our sponsors were Mrs. Michie, Miss Perkins, and Mr. Cheston. On a whole we were quite happy as juniors, but we were all dreaming of becoming big-time seniors. Then on August, 1963, our dreams came true. We entered Carver overjoyed. We realized, however, that we had lost a large number of our classmates throughout our up- ward struggle. This year proved to be a busy one also. Everyone began making plans for that great day of graduation. We were proud to crown Eudora Ware, Miss Homecoming” for the years 1963-64. We only had two sponsors. They were Miss Perkins and Mr. Cheston, who we feel did a tremendous job as our advisors. Throughout our dear years at Carver, members of our class participated in the bank, FBLA, NHA, NHS, NFA, Library Club, Newspaper Staff, Choir, and other various activi- ties offered at Carver High. Now that Carver has become a thing of the past as far as our education goes, we shall never forget it as long as we live. When we become nurses, doctors, teachers, secretaries, etc. each of us shall say, Thanks to Carver and its dear teachers for helping to make me what I am. by Pearl Robinison
