Class History September fifth, nineteen hundred and fifty five, approximately one hundred and seven girls and ninety-six boys entered the doors of Carver from the four respective counties: Culpeper, Madison, Orange and Rappanhannock. We, the one hundred and seven girls and ninety six boys have looked forward to entering Carver for seven long years. This new school offered us a different environment with exciting events, customs, and numerous educational challenges. Among these were: the many extracurricular activities, a thirty minute lunch period, no recess and the opportunity to pursue subjects of our choice. Our patient sponsors were: Mr. Word, Mr. Compton, Mrs. Cunningham, Miss White and Mr. Williams. After a tiring but joyous year of pains and problems the majority of us were pro- moted to the ninth grade. In our freshman year our class was represented in the various activities: band, choir, New Homemakers of America, New Farmers of America, foot- ball, basketball, and baseball. Again our patient sponsors were: Mr. Word, Mr. Comp- ton, Mrs. Cunningham, Miss White and Mr. Williams. Nothing unusual happened in our sophomore year. Our class continued participating in the various activities, but it was during our sophomore year that we found it difficult and necessary to keep up our scholastic studies, because by then the majority of us had begun to think more seriously about the future. Our sponsors were: Mr. Word, Mr. Compton, Mrs. Cunningham and Mr. Williams. Our Junior year was a great one. Our boys were successful in winning the Intramural Basketball Tournament, and we, the Juniors, sponsored a Junior Class Night. It was a great success and Annette Howard was crowned Miss Junior. Then we were faced with another affair, the Junior-Senior Prom, which we had looked forward to ever since we were in the eighth grade. This affair was a great success also. We were under the gui- dance of Mr. Compton, Mr. Finlay, Miss Jenkins and Mrs. Parker. Our senior year will always be remembered because of the many interesting events along with the many unforgettable moments shared by each of us. Unfortunately we were deprived of one of our sponsors, Mr. Compton; however, we are grateful for having Miss Jenkins, Mrs. Parker and Mr. Finlay as our sponsors. Approaching the completion of our high-school education, the majority of us have many ideas of becoming leaders of tomorrow. We sincerely think that we have done our utter-most in accomplishing a portion of our destiny and we will strive to get ahead in the future. Shelby Tyree Shirley Arrington 20

Class Prophecy The Crystal Ball reveals what our classmates will be doing ten years from now. Estelle Williams has graduated from William Penn Business Institute, and is one of America ' s most successful career girls. Doris Porter is modeling bathing suits at Macey ' s Dept. Store. Ernestine Roy is an Art Major at Morgan State College. Her favorite subject is Roger Davis. Olivia Banks and John Slaughter are married and residing in Los Angeles, California. Annie Young is engaged to a certain Johnny Be Good.” Shirley Arrington and Marjorie Barbour are now attending Temple University in Philadelphia. Fred Banks is a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Studios in New York, his as- sistant is Richard Lewis and his favorite partner Emma Ausberry. Jerry Taylor is now playing first clarinet with Benny Goodman ' s Orchestra, while Shelby gets most of his earnings. Ethel Daniels is now modeling at the Tall Apparel Shop, owned and operated by James Brown. Eugene Williams is one of the nations top Psychologists, with an income of beauti- ful young women. Regina Gray has talked her way into the White House. She entertains the president. Shirley Covington is private secretary to Lawrence Dade, one of the two best dressed men in America. Teresa Jackson was chosen as America ' s most beautiful young woman in a nation wide beauty contest. Melvin Hubbard has been worrying about a ring for Gloria Jett. His problems have been solved, thanks to the Cracker Jack Box. Barbara A. Tirtsley has been persuaded by Robert Turner to say I do, will this be her chance of a lifetime? Florence Hawkins and Katherine Carey are graduates of Apex School of Beauty. They specialize in the latest hairstyles. 21
