We, the one hundred seventy-two students, were from the four counties: Culpeper, Orange, Madison, and Rappahannock. Our entering high school began a new era of life for us, but we soon became adjusted to our new enviroment of more complex studies. Our great desire for learning and our clear young minds made it easy for us to grasp the wealth of information presented to us by our instructors. We shall never forget the many rules and customs by which we had to abide. During our eighth grade year, we were classified as underclassmen. Our sponsors that year were Mrs. M. J. Anglin, Mrs. V. P. Blair, Mr. F. I. Hawkins, and Mrs. C. W. Michie. They showed much interest and patience in helping us with our complicated problems. We did not take part in many activities during this year. However, a few of us participated in such activities as Choir, Dramatics, Camera Club, Industrial Arts, Safety Patrols, New Farmers of America, New Homemakers of America, and the Handi- craft Club. Before we realized it, we were ready to begin our Freshman year in high school. That year our sponsors were Mrs. S. B. Mason, Mrs. M. J. Anglin, Mrs. V. P. Blair, Miss M. W. Hooker, and Mr. F. N. Johnson. Our Freshman year found us energetically engaged in a variety of activities. It was during this year that the boys and this class won the school’s Intramural Basketball Championship. We deemed this a great honor to become champions at such an early stage in high school. In our Sophomore year, our sponsors were as follows: Mrs. M. J. Anglin, Mrs. S. B. Mason, and Miss M. W. Hooker. Nothing unusual happened during this year, except that the girls of this class won the Intramural Basketball Tournament. Although we found it necessary to study hard and keep up with our scholastic studies, the Sophomore year was, indeed, an enjoyable year for us. The Junior year was a success socially as well as scholastically. This was one of our most important and exciting years at Carver. We worked hard that year to achieve the goal of sponsoring the Junior-Senior Prom. We do not hesitate to say that this goal would not have been achieved without the sincere help of our instructors: Mrs. M. J. Anglin, Mrs. E. M. Tomlinson, and Miss D. L. Barrett. How proud we are to say that at last we have reached the most important year of high school, our Senior year! We are fortunate to have again Mrs. E. M. Tomlinson and Mrs. M. J. Anglin as our instructors. By the time that we had reached our Senior year, our enrollment had dropped from one hundred and seventy-two to seventy-eight. Because of this great decrease, we needed only two homerooms. This year will always linger in the hearts of us, the seventy-eight students. We are now ready to take another step forward into life with heads high and our minds ready to accomplish many hard tasks that may come before us. Some of us will strive to further our education and be- come leaders of tomorrow, and some of us will make use of what we have; but whatever we should do, we shall never forget the happy days here at Carver. We, the Seniors of nineteen fifty-six and fifty-seven, wish to assure the teachers who have taught us through the five long years that their work will be rewarding to us. We wish to show our appreciation to our teachers for all they have done for us, and we wish them all the luck and happiness possible throughout the years to come. class pRophecy The wheel of fortune has begun to rotate, aiming to slow down while we are still thinking, but will stop on our predicted future.
