THE CLASS HISTORY ’ 51-’56 On an exhilarating day in September in the year of fifty-one, approxi- mately ninety-six girls and seventy-four boys entered the doors of Carver from the four respective counties: Orange, Madison, Culpeper and Rappa- hannock. We, the one hundred and seventy eager students just out of ele- mentary school and with the glorious feeling of summer still lingering in our system began our first sober and solid era of high school life. Because of our eagerness and intelligence, it wasn’t very difficult for us to settle down and become adjusted to the never-ending study and concentration that is yet required of our eager yound minds. The many rules and customs that were new to us will never be forgott- en. Our class was the first to begin the five-year plan, and during our first year we were classified as Underclassmen. Our sponsors, Mr. C. H. Fin- lay, Mr. O. W. Thomas, Mrs. S. B. Mason, and Mrs. Eva Jackson, were very cooperative and showed much patience toward us in overcoming our many obstacles during our eighth grade year. The term of fifty-one passed quickly and we began our Freshman or first year in high school realizing then we had to buckle down to work. Our sponsors were Mr. C. H. Finlay, Mr. O. W. Thomas, Mrs. S. B. Mason, and Miss K. Tasker. During our Freshman year our class was well represented in the var- ious activities, such as Band, Pep Club, Majorette Club, Handicraft Club, Dramatics, Choir, Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity team. Camera Club, New Farm- ers of America, New Homemakers of America, Patrol System, both school and bus. Science Club, Needle Club, Library Club, Baseball, Softball and Football Teams. A year of pleasure and hard work was the Sophomore year. During this year we were sponsored by Mr. C. H. Finlay, Mr. O. W. Thomas and Mr. S. B. Newton. For the first time, we, the Sophomores were allowed to attend the Junior-Senior Prom, a big affair sponsored by the everworking Juniors. Our boys showed excellency in the Intramural Basketball tournament that year. Because of the decrease in our-number of fellow students whom we had lost along the wayside, we had only two homerooms, which were sponsored by Mr. C. H. Finlay and Mrs. V. P. Blair, respectively. This memorable year will always linger in our minds because of the great excitement of spon- soring the Junior-Senior Prom, which required great effort and patience on the part of the Juniors and sponsors. Our Senior year will always be remembered because of the hard work and pleasure shared by each of us. Fortunate are we to have Mr. C. H. Fin- lay and Mrs. V. P. Blair as our sponsors again. Nearing the completion of our high school education, we have high an- ticipations of becoming the leaders of tomorrow. We sincerely think that we have done our utmost in achieving a portion of our goal, and we are striving to forge ahead in the future. Martha Harris Laura Watson
