Specially trained Machinist’s Mates serving as Lngineering Laboratory Technicians (ELTs) provide this service. They minimize corrosion of plant materials using chemical controls, thus increasing the life of the power plants. ELTs provide more than just longevity; they accept the responsibility of monitoring all radiological controls for the ship. Through their endless efforts, they ensure that radiation and contamination stay out of the personnel spaces. The Engineering Laboratory Technicians serving in RL will ensure that the GEORGE WASHINGTON continues to provide the United States with distinguished service for years to come on the same two plants it was built with.
