H flsloldlvig ovi to ITY In an area where most schools simply form the basis for a community, it is unusual to find a community that comprises the heart of a school. At Walton, the words school and community do not merely denote teachers and students. The Walton community is made up of parents, students, volunteers, and a dedicated staff who are determined to maintain the number one status that the Walton community has worked so hard to achieve. A strong sense of pride and excellence is the glue that bonds the Walton community. When the bell rings at 3:15, the school day for the teachers does not end. Many of Walton's dedicated teachers can be found sponsoring club meetings or giving extra help to stu- dents. The students themselves come early and stay late working on service projects, sports, or school activities, there is not a more devoted student body to be found! The PTSA has helped Walton live up to the slogan Walton Cares , they introduced par- ents to the Walton community with Open House and have sponsored many activities around the school throughout the year. Other volunteers play a vital role in the Walton community. Thanks to the Senior parents, the Senior picnic was well organized and real- ly delicious. The Band and Sports booster clubs raise money for use by the various orga- nizations which make their suocess possible. Special credit goes to those students who show just how much Walton cares, Stacey Eakes and Sari Gruber organized the home- coming stadium clean-up, Lilly Anne Alex- ander coordinated the National Honor Soci- ety Habitat for Humanity project, and Shan- non Wrege organized the book drive to replenish Sprayberry's damaged library. Spirit, pride and caring are the catch phrases for Walton High School, and it is not surpris- ing that Walton is holding on to the feeling of UNITY. 10-OPENING N. -L

TRADITIO Walton is rich in old traditions and bursting with new ones. From the annual Homecoming game and dance to the first senior picnic, Wal- ton's traditions enrich every school year and add spice to high school life. There are some customs at Walton that are as traditional at school as homework and tests. Crisp fall air serves as the backdrop for Wal- tonls Homecoming. Red, white, and blue-clad students cheer wildly and urge the Ragin' Raiders on to another victory. The crowning of the queen highlights this spectacular event. At Thanksgiving, Walton's clubs and service organizations join forces and collect canned foods for the community shelters. The school year culminates with Awards Day to honor many achievers and inductions into honor so- cieties. Seniors look forward to commence- ment exercises and know that when their high school year is over, they will fondly remember Walton's longstanding tradition of spirit and closeness. New traditions make Walton a fun ilalilfiivifa om to
