H flsloldlvig ovi to ITY In an area where most schools simply form the basis for a community, it is unusual to find a community that comprises the heart of a school. At Walton, the words school and community do not merely denote teachers and students. The Walton community is made up of parents, students, volunteers, and a dedicated staff who are determined to maintain the number one status that the Walton community has worked so hard to achieve. A strong sense of pride and excellence is the glue that bonds the Walton community. When the bell rings at 3:15, the school day for the teachers does not end. Many of Walton's dedicated teachers can be found sponsoring club meetings or giving extra help to stu- dents. The students themselves come early and stay late working on service projects, sports, or school activities, there is not a more devoted student body to be found! The PTSA has helped Walton live up to the slogan Walton Cares , they introduced par- ents to the Walton community with Open House and have sponsored many activities around the school throughout the year. Other volunteers play a vital role in the Walton community. Thanks to the Senior parents, the Senior picnic was well organized and real- ly delicious. The Band and Sports booster clubs raise money for use by the various orga- nizations which make their suocess possible. Special credit goes to those students who show just how much Walton cares, Stacey Eakes and Sari Gruber organized the home- coming stadium clean-up, Lilly Anne Alex- ander coordinated the National Honor Soci- ety Habitat for Humanity project, and Shan- non Wrege organized the book drive to replenish Sprayberry's damaged library. Spirit, pride and caring are the catch phrases for Walton High School, and it is not surpris- ing that Walton is holding on to the feeling of UNITY. 10-OPENING N. -L

LE DERSHIP , Leaders are those special people who seize life and choose their own direction. An invigorating aura surrounds these leaders and captivates those who follow. Walton is a big school, therefore, all students who possess these strong leadership qualities have a chance to assert themselves. Students may become leaders in the classroom, on the sports field, or through various clubs. Is it hard to recog- nize these exemplary leaders? Not at all. Classrooms be- come more than a place to learn when they are enhanced by highly motivated students. Such students can turn a mere lecture into a heat- ed debate, lead class dis- cussions, and im- p r o v e Q if ' K. everyone's learning. In sports, super athletes inspire the entire team and their drive and spirit prevails at every sports event. Without the excellent leadership of the clubs at Walton, one very important facet of high school life would fail to exist. Sponsors for Walton clubs supervise meetings and projectsg however, in the end final decisions and actions are left up to the club officers. Walton is proud to produce students who are not afraid to take charge and show initiative. Walton students are proud, motivated, and responsible. This is why Walton is holding on to NUMBER ONE . . . they are LEADERS! f all ' :Wi ' ' fl ll i i S, an f- M ' ' 5 s - . lb. :grail-iii? is , . OPENING-9
