The Band consists of 53 students, n I .-I fi:-Q I lx ! , .1 some of vvhom had little previous experience in playing a musical in- Q strument but learned to play at f Wingate in the instrumental class. v D There are three choruses, Male, - ,, 'X Female and Mixed, under the direc- gi',x,- 'Y V tion of Mr. David Jaffe, Mrs. Shirley Franklin and Mr. George Hall, re- spectively. The Mixed Chorus con- tains 7O voices. Auditions are held in May for the oncoming September semester. A student may also enter the Junior Chorus which is a training class for any ofthe other choruses. The Advanced Music Theory class is under the di- rection of Mrs. Franklin. ln this class students are taught to compose music. In these he pours the love, hopes, ideas, and dreams which characterize his personality. ln Wingate, the Industrial Arts Department offers young men the opportunity to work with their hands. Under the chairmanship of Mr. Benjamin Gold, this department has modern facilities for Wood Work- ing, Metal Arts, Graphic Arts, Drafting, and Photography. In addition, students may take Transportation, a course which teaches them the mechanics of the automobile and its service. SAM KOLTUN, Chairman rigs Busy in the Oil Painting Class are Arline Black, Liga Volmars, Michele Steinberg, Roslyn Greenberg, Maxine Boddie Wingate's Art department, headed by Mr. Sam Koltun, offers various courses in both required and major art: 1.Art Appreciation-a required art course that gives the student an acquaintance with, and an appreciation of, lines, color, two- and three-dimensional forms, 2. Basic Art, which is given after Art Appreciation for stu- dents wishing to continue with artg 3.Advanced General Art-a course following Basic Art that specializes in Costume Design, Commercial Art, Interior Design and Painting, 4. Ceramics and Ceramic Sculpture, 5. Art Survey, which covers contributions ofthe arts to our culture. 6.Jewelry Design. The teachers in our art department are Mr. Sam Koltun, who studied ceramics at Pratt Institute and Alfred University, Mrs. Dorothy Foster, who specializes in interior design, Mrs. Henrietta Goldberg, who is experienced in leather work and jewelry, Mrs. Dora Goldman, who teaches oil painting, and Mrs. Sylvia l-lomnick, who teaches our major art and advanced art classes. ....1--W M4,,,,,....f-f--- c www' 5 WM '
