U0 QOOQ The courses that are handled by this department 60600 are Stenography, Typing, Secretarial Practice, Transcription and Clerical Practice. The teachers vvho are responsible for the success of these courses are: ivlrs. Deborah Feldman, lVliss Lois Gutenplan, lVlr. Joseph Johnson, lVlrs. Gloria Kamen, lVlrs. Ann Landsman, lVlr. Julius Levy, lVlrs. Rose Neches, Miss Bertha Shurtock, and lVlrs. Dolores Vertucci. As ot September '59, a new face has been added to this group of fine teachers, that of the gracious lVlrs. lda Bush. The various courses are made very interest- ing because of the ingenious vvay in which they are presented to the student. For instance, the pupils in the Secretarial Practice classes have 'time cards' which they place in the 'in' rack upon entering their class and then when the class is over, they place their cards in the 'out' rack. The students also learn to operate the svvitch- board and lBlVl lvlachine. They have the added en- joyment ot using individual telephone extensions. SVI Cha rm lVlR. ww? MISS DOROTHY HIRSCHHORN, Chairman MRS. PEARL PONTI vvith JOYCE SPIVEY and GLORIA NIXON .wg . f ... , .. QL i L-I A HIGH FASHION IN THE MAKING A HOME ARTS Out of the classes of our Home Arts Department come our future homemakers. Miss Dorothy Hirschhorn, chairman of this department, feels that in these classes girls gain valuable experience concerning foods, nursing, and clothing. Foods, for example, gives girls the op- portunity to learn about foreign nations, their people, their habits, and their ideas. Through the activities of the Bon Ap- petit Club. directed by Miss Margaret Kennedy, girls are encouraged to become connoisseurs of fine foods by visiting good restaurants that specialize in foreign cooking. Girls interested in sevving and fashions are able to take a course in clothing under the direction of Mrs. Gertrude Bramson and Mrs. Pearl Ponti. They are taught basic sewing skills and are kept informed of current fash- ion trends. In Home Nursing, taught by Mrs. Grace Turecan, girls are given an opportunity to prepare for emergencies that may happen in the home. Lklllil N QAQKEIIIQ
