IVIR SAMUEL BROVVNSTEIN, Chairman Under the supervision of lVlr. Samuel Brownstein, chairman, the Biology department with its staff of teachers which includes lVliss Beverly Cohen, lVlrs. Clara Elkind, lVlr. Solomon Feldman, lVlrs. Harriet Kliot, lVlrs. Helen Genberg, lVliss Nlillicent Groman, lVlrs. Ellen lVlcCatty, lVlrs. Francine Salom and lVlr. Harold Silver- stein, offers students the opportunity to learn modern discoveries in the field of biological sciences. The required biology course embraces such topics as botany, zoology, physiology, anatomy, the science of micro-organisms and psychology. Those more inter- ested in these and other phases of biology are offered an advanced course called laboratory techniques. Students taking this advanced course are given the opportunity to seek knowledge and test its findings. The biology staff helps students to acquaint them- selves with what life is scientifically. In Wingate, these keys take you to Spain, France, Israel and Germany. In exciting Spain you will meet caballeros and senoritas. You will go to gay, colorful fiestas and death-defying bullfights. If you journey to France you will enjoy first-hand the delicacies of.French cuisine. You will stroll down the Champs Elysees and visit Ie tour Eifel. You may say au revoir to Paris but never adieu. Imagine yourself buying Dresden dolls in Germany and dancing a polka in a hier- garten. When you go to Israel you will see the miracle of deserts transformed into exquisite gardens. You will gladly say, Shalom Alechem, peace be with you, but you will hate to say, Shalom lgood-byel Israel. Dr. Philip Scherer, chairman of the depart- ment, teaches German and French. Mr. Sol Moskowitz teaches Hebrew. Spanish is taught by Mr. Alex Ball, Mr. Sol Corteselli, Mrs. Ethel Mirin, and Miss Claire Miller. French is taught by Mr. Sam Nemson, Mrs. Shirley Benjamin, Miss Marie Heyman, Miss Bernice Litwack and Mrs. Carole Newman. DR. PHILIP SCHERER, Chairman

NIR. LOUIS ALPER Chairman W QQUERUQEQ Under the capable direction of lVlr. Louis Alper, the Physical Science Department is training young scien- tists in the basic scientific concepts and principles. Every entering student is introduced to the sciences by an elementary course in General Science. All those wishing to pursue the sciences have a vvide choice of subjects to choose from. Some of these are chemistry, earth science, and physics. The teachers of these sub- jects are: lvlr. Herman Keilson, lVlr. Murray Held, lVlr. Alvin Fontek, lVlrs. Harriet Kliot, and lVlr. Ira Reisner. Chemistry is the study of the composition of matter, Physics is that of the uses of this matter, and Earth Science the study of the earth, its geology, and the universe. For students vvho wish a practical course in chemistry without regents credit, there is an applied chemistry course.
