CINDERMEN PLACE THIRD IN CONFERENCE, Clark’s cindermen did themselves proud during their 1951 season by finishing third in the Conference, the highest they have ever finished. Their season, which included such special meets as the Indianapolis Relays, and the Western Division Northern Indiana Conference, indoor at the University of Chicago field house and outdoor at East Chicago, ended with a tally of 6 wins and 3 losses. Some of the outstanding thinly clad lads were Basil Kristoff, who set a new Sec- tional record in the pole vault at 1 YlVl Frank Sharkey, breaking the school record in the mile run with a time of 4:37; and Captain Bill Moses, who made a fine showing in the high jump and high hurdles. Coach Emerson Aldrich and his diamondmen had one of the best seasons in the history of George Rogers Clark High School baseball. With 10 victories, 8 defeats and 2 ties to their record, it was the first time in many a year” a Pioneer ball club had won more ball games than they lost. While GRC’s three .300 hitters, A1 Carpen, Ted Herman and Bob Figler, pounded enemy pitching, hurlers like Ed Doma- sica, Pete Carmichael and Bud Golubiewski stopped the oppo- sition on the defensive end. DIAMONDMEN HAVE BEST SEASON IN 10 YEARS Probably the team ' s biggest thrill of the year was their 4-3 defeat of the unconquered Raiders of Gary Emerson. With the loss of only two players, pitcher Bud Golubiewski and outfielder Joe Kvasnica, Clark fans can expect a better team in ' 52. Who knows, maybe they will be the conference champs. ROW 1 — F.
