SETTIERS CAPTURE CITY TITLE . . . FRESHMEN WIN 13 GRC’s freshmen squad came through in their usual fine style and at the close of the season sported a fine 13-5 record. Mr. Emerson Aldrich thus added an- other winning season to his already long list. The Frosh record was second only to that of the B Squad in the senior high. Mr. Aldrich expressed the belief that his team will offer quite a few good varsity prospects for coming years. Victory seemed to be the only thing Clark ' s Settlers knew as they pounded out a 11-3 season record and copped the Hammond City B Squad basketball championship. Coach Hein and his Robertsdale lads topped Whit- ing, Fractional, Hammond High, Roosevelt and Tech before they tasted the bitterness of defeat in a second meeting with their cross-town rival, Whiting. The younger Pioneers dropped games to Washing- ton and Froebel, with wins over the Wildcats, Vik- ings and Emerson Raider ' s sandwiched between. 25

CINDERMEN PLACE THIRD IN CONFERENCE, Clark’s cindermen did themselves proud during their 1951 season by finishing third in the Conference, the highest they have ever finished. Their season, which included such special meets as the Indianapolis Relays, and the Western Division Northern Indiana Conference, indoor at the University of Chicago field house and outdoor at East Chicago, ended with a tally of 6 wins and 3 losses. Some of the outstanding thinly clad lads were Basil Kristoff, who set a new Sec- tional record in the pole vault at 1 YlVl Frank Sharkey, breaking the school record in the mile run with a time of 4:37; and Captain Bill Moses, who made a fine showing in the high jump and high hurdles.
