Page Aqua Hits Of The Years This year's water show, sponsored by the Mermaid Club and called Aqua Hits of the Years, was enjoyed by the crowd that packed the pool at the Peabody Dem- onstration School, where the show was held. Included were such numbers as The Pink Lady, The Rosary, La Vie En Rose, Stardust, Autumn Leaves, and the Charleston A diving exhibition was also a highlight of the program. This year our Mermaid Club was in- vited to Austin Peay College in Clarksville, Tennessee, to put on our show in their lovely new pool. The show we gave there was one ol' the best the Mermaid Club has ever given. B The Mermaid Club isi one ol the most active groups under the sponsorship ol the VVomen's Recreation Asso- ciation. This year the club had twenty-five active mem- bers, as well as three children, the Merrnaidettesf' The Mermaid Club is the only club in the Association which has certain qualihcations for joining. To be eligible, a girl must have a required amount of swimming ability. 160 Alter meeting these requirements, there are three groups she may be placed in: formation, synchronized, and speciality. The girls spend the year learning swimming techniques and stunts, in preparation lfor the water show which is usually given during the winter quarter and highlights the year lor the club. This year ,the Mermaids elected a Miss Mermaid. X'Vinning the honor was Eleanor Harmon, who is also president ol' the club. Selection was made on the basis olf all-around ability and contribution to the cluh's activi- ties. The Mermaid Club is under the able direction olf Miss Sally I.aSalle, former Olympics swimming coach. The total success ol' the club this year is undoubtedly due to Miss LaSalle's energy, enthusiasm and teaching ability. This year the members of the lvlermaid Club ordered swimming medals. The medals are not awarded to the girls but are purchased by those interested in owning one.
