The Newman Club olf Peabody College is part olf the National Federation of Newman Clubs, an organization consisting of over live hundred units located on the campuses ol non-Catholic colleges throughout the United States. The Newman Club was founded in 1893 on the cam- pus of the University ol' Pennsylvania. Newman Clubs derive their name from the great Cardinal Newman of Page 142 England, an outstanding author and apologist lor the Catholic: faith who died in 1890. The Newman Club may be described as an organiza- tion ol' Catholic students attending non-Catholic Colleges which strives to promote their spiritual, intellectual and social welfare, The Newman Club encourages its mem- bers to take an active part in all college activities and to promote the general welfare ol' their cznnpus in at Christian manner.

Peabody Players This year the Peabody Players did two very successful productions. The Male Animal, by Elliot Nugent and james Thurber, was the first laugh-success ol the year, with joe Ferguson and Nancy Lowery in the leads. The second play was the difficult Impormzzce of Being Earn- est, by Oscar W'ilcle, and was perlorlned with comic precision. jimmy Lott and Ken Kenison performed ex- jon FERGUSON Prcxillzmt Page 144 cellently in the male leads, and Annette Saunders and Ann Marshall furnished beautiful and talented support plaving the lemalc leads.
