The Newman Club olf Peabody College is part olf the National Federation of Newman Clubs, an organization consisting of over live hundred units located on the campuses ol non-Catholic colleges throughout the United States. The Newman Club was founded in 1893 on the cam- pus of the University ol' Pennsylvania. Newman Clubs derive their name from the great Cardinal Newman of Page 142 England, an outstanding author and apologist lor the Catholic: faith who died in 1890. The Newman Club may be described as an organiza- tion ol' Catholic students attending non-Catholic Colleges which strives to promote their spiritual, intellectual and social welfare, The Newman Club encourages its mem- bers to take an active part in all college activities and to promote the general welfare ol' their cznnpus in at Christian manner.
