FOOTBALL Peabody Colleges intratnural program got oil' to a rousing start in September with at well balanced football schedule. Interest was high and cotnpetition keen in the race for suprentacy and headlines. Under the super- vision ol' .Iohn Clhellman. at graduate student from Georgia, the well rounded prograni was the start needed to establish and maintain interest in extra curricular activities. The champion from the Iour teams participating in the football tournament, was the high llying Philosophers team who went undefeated throughout the tournament. Close behind was the always dangerous Blues who lost only to the Phil'osophers. Responsible lor the champions success were such stalwarts as lflavious Smith, Frankie l3l,l'lCi-l it:xl Roux lm!! In lliglllf Charles Griflin. Huddy Lansford, Ken Burleson, Ken lVallac'e and Ralph john- son. For the runner up teatn it was such men as Alim Patterson, Richard Graves, .Xllan Ballanger, Robert Davis and joe Potts that made the team a constant threat for the championship. Other teams participating in the tournament were the Phi Chis and Lions. The All-Star team lost to the all victorious Philosophers. Playing on the All-Star team were -Iantes Breece, -lack XVakeIield, Steve Hatfield, Tony Carvalho, XValter Reasner, Bobby Medaugh, Charles IVaites, Jimmy Cox and Aloe Potts. 'l'hroughout, the season a good time was had by all participantsg good sportsmanship was in evidence at all times, a credit to good organization. Page 150 Miss iilSAI.LY,' LASALL141 Girls' Inlmmuml Sponsor JOHN C11-Ir11.I.A1AN Boys' llllramuml Director GIRLS' I TRAMURAL PROGRAM The girls' intramural program is one ol the activities sponsored by the XVomen's Recreational Association. Every woman on campus is eligible and invited to par- ticipate in the program. Intramurals are set up lor the seasonal sports ol' hockey. volleyball, basketball, solt- ball, and tennis. At the end ol' a seasonal sport a color game is pl'ayed between the Maroon and Blue teams, which are composed ol' all the active members ol IV. R. A. In the Spring at XV. R. A.'s Candlelight Serv- ice, a color cup is awarded to the color tean1 which has acquired the most points during the yearg a plaque is awarded the individual team that has acquired the most points during the year. In addition certificates ol' recog- nition are given to an outstanding girl in the lreslnnan, sophomore. junior, and senior class. BOYS' I TRAMURAL PROGRAM The intramural' program started the year off with a touch lootball league composed ol' lour teams: fly Blues, t2j Phi Chi, Philosophers, and Lions. A double round robin schedule was played with the Philosophers ending the season undefeated. Following the regular schedul'e an AI.L STAR team was picked by the players and they played the Philosophers in the final game of the season. The Philosophers also won this game by a score ol 27-0. A tennis tournament was also held during the lall quarter with ten entries. Ralph -lohnson ol the Grad- uate School defeated Flavious Smith in the finals. During the winter quarter a basketball league was Iormed consisting of six teams: fly Old Men, QQQ Terrible IO, Frosh, Q-lj Grads, Ozarks and Q65 Phi Chi. A double round robin schedule was played. The Terrible lOl' had the outstanding team in the basketball league and ended the season undeleated. An All-Star was named with the players making the choices. Due to the short quarter there was not time to have the All-Stars play the champion Terrible IO team. Recreational volleyball was played every Friday alternoon by the faculty and students.
