'1'he Peabody Elementary Council is a student branch ol '1'he Association lor Childhood Education Interna- tional, a group ol' teachers and students interested in better education lor children. Metnbership in the council is voluntary and those who are interested in children and their educational de- velopment, are urged to becotne alliliated with this great organization. 'l'here is opportunity lor leadership, par- ticipation and sharing some ol' the best, ol' our educa- tional literature. The Council participates in various activities during the vear. Meetings are held everv two weeks and a great ellort is ntade bv the Progratn Connnittee to provide in- teresting progratns with a balance ol' speakers on special phases ol' the elententarv scltool curriculunt, niusical Page Ill programs, student participation and those of a social nature. The social highlights ol' the Fall Quarter were the Halloween Party at Knapp Farnt and the Christmas Program, held in the l.ittle Caleteria. A special coni- ntittee displayed the toys which the Council had bought lor the Clover llottotu Home. AX team lroni the Council helped with the paper drive which was sponsored bv American Legion Post 5 and the 13r11111r'r-'l'rfn11ff.s's1'1111 lor the benefit ol' the Child Study Center at Peabody. 'lihe Council, under the sponsorship ol' Dr. Nlavcie Southall, l'rol'essor ol' Elenrentarv liducation, l't'Ol'g2lllllCS at the iJl'g'lIlllillg' ol' the suntnter session. and carries on an active program throughout the suntnter quarter.

EDUCATIONAL SIG LPHA IOTA Sigma Alpha Iota, a national professional honorary music lraternity lor women, is composed ol musicians from all branches chosen on the basis of musicianship, scholarship, and character. The fraternity strives to maintain the highest standards ol' musical performance and to further the aims ol' music education. The Iota Phi Chapter, chartered at Peabody in No- vember, l94ti is the only chapter in Tennessee and, also, holds membership in the National' Federation of Nlusic Clubs. Two pledge classes were initiated into the fra- ternity this year. In addition to its members, Iota Phi has thirteen patronesses and three chapter advisors. Ol outstanding interest this year was the visit to campus ol Mrs. Donald C. May, the Iota province presi- dent. The chapter has monthly musicals presented by the members, an annual tea in the lall honoring new women music students, a Rose party to acquaint pledges with the fraternity and a farewell' luncheon in the spring lor graduating seniors. Xllith the aid ol the patronesses two scholarships were awarded tl1is year-to Suzanne Illillis and Betty Dillon. Money for the scholarship was raised by Christmas card sales and other projects.
