Yes, fall came to the campus of Butler High and football was king once again, as the Big, Hairy Bulldogs” of George P. Butler romped on to a 6-2-1 season. Butler’s premiere of Sept. 13 against Statesboro gave them a bolstering victory of 14-0. A big event came when the Mighty Dogs encountered Lucy Laneyon Sept. 21 for the inauguration of the first 4- AAA game of the season and painfully lost by a score of 6-19. As was said Although they won, the Wildcats looked more like a band of chewed-up felines.” MIKE DORN Arc you ever going to yell hike? Ring-A-Round the Rosy! Boo! GEORGE LANDRETH All arms and legs for Butler. M. L. BASS Say that again and I II cram it down your throat! If you gotta' go you gotta' go! I’d have wrote you a letter, but I couldn't spell bbbththth— DICKIE MAYSON. The magnificent tackling against ARC. Praise be—I finally did it!— JERRY SEBER Heh, heh, heh, you can’t have it. The Dogs then went on to the annual process of defeating the Shamrocks 29-0. It’s like a dream. I still think I’m going to wake up and find it didn’t happen.” But it did. ”... we did it for you, coach ...” ”... great- est game played in Butler’s history ...” (continued) Stop! In the name of love— RANDY HICKMAN Hey! Wha ’s going on over there? RICK PEARCY— Ultra-Brite gives your mouth ... Thanks to Randy H., Pat C, Rick P., Kenny W., and Dickie M., and all the others, of course, these were some of the emotion packed phrases in the air as people screamed, cheered, and cried over the histori- cal defeat of North Augusta. Yep! Butler leased out and dropped the 26-0 bomb on undefeated N.A. JODY WRIGHT— Mooo Mooo (continued) My name is Kenny Walton, and this is MY football! Here he comes! K. WALTON—Does that Hi-Karate cologne really work? Somebody had better catch that ball! PAT CASPER Rock-a-by baby Here comes another touchdown—against ARC. 97 Catch me if you can!! STEVE HARRISON Just try and push me down again! But as most schools Butler had its bad breaks and lost to Aiken 7-20. Then the next week lost the chance for the 4-AAA championship as the Dog’s came to a 14-14 draw with T. W. Josey. But on November 1, the Bulldogs came back to life as they wore out Elberton to win by a score of 14-0. Then came Homecoming and the Tutt game. By pulling the offensive weapon of the onside kickoff But- ler won 37-0 and had a very jubilant Homecoming. (continued) The problem is to find the ball. BENNY COX—Me—Caught in that mess? 98 this was the Tutt game. And VERNON STEWART Ooooh! That tickles my toes. Onward to victory! WALTER BELL The football thinker Gang way!—PEE WEE JOHNSON You just can't pull down a bulldog! We're all shook up! STEVE TURNER—Mmwaaah!! You great big beautiful football! Did they ever dream they'd beat N.A. ? Surprising ( ?) Butler threw up a sixty-one Rich- mond special’ defense and re- duced the Musketeer’s arsenal to a firecracker without match- The es to give favored host a Ru,es 13-0 lesson in football funda- mentals. So went the last and greatest game of the sea- son. The finale was spiced with honking horns, tears of joy, and fulfilled dreams for Butler.
