It’s time for gowns, suits, corsages, and frayed nerves. We have voted for our Homecoming court and attendants. We've conferred with friends about who might ask whom to the dance. It’s a time of the year that’s full of tradition, and everybody is an- ticipating the events surrounding Homecoming. The excitement started a few weeks ago when the “gentlemen” were searching for their dates and then trying to find the right moment to ask the girls. That's the hard part, finding the right time to ask the girl. The guy doesn't want to feel like a fool and ask too early, but he doesn’t want to wait until it's too late either. When he finally decides who and when, he has to decide how to word this invitation. Next comes the dreaded part - what if she says no?! Who to ask then? Is it too late to ask? These are things one must endure before Homecoming. Next, where should he take her to eat? Can his wallet sustain her tastes? These are all no-nonsense frustrations that pass through his mind The toughest part to survive has to be parents and their picture taking. They all take three rolls of pictures, then don't develop any of them. First they want a picture of the driver and his date, then a picture of the other couple, followed by a picture of the two gentlemen. Then they in- sist on one shot of the whole group. Next there has to be one of the two girls ... This could go on all evening At the dance, the guy feels all embarrassed by his friends, and only wants to dance to the slow songs. After this, he wants to go to a party and hopes that his date ap- proves. Hopefully he has the chance to take her out for a brief breakfast and a slow ride home After a long good-bye, the evening we have so long plan- ned for and anticipated comes to an end. There is nothing to look forward to now but a good day’s rest, and a swell headache. But do not fear, Prom is near. — Sean Casey a time of tradition ‘ .. and nerves . gi 12 13 ws - _.e i) Seri Be p ig) Denise Anderson — “Venereal Denise” Activities: FBLA, Foren- sics, Thespians, Span. The trip was intended to unite the SCC and set up a few guidelines the SCC would follow for the rest of the 1980-81 school year. Committee groups were set up among the members of the SCC. These committees were concerned with helping make school life bet- ter for G.M. students and will be active throughout the year. These committees are: Social, Assemblies, Constitution, Vandalism, and Priviledges. Each committee gave a report to the SCC concerning its goals for the rest of the year. These reports helped the students realize the responsibility of being a part of a governmental group. On the second day of the SCC’s adventure, Inner Quest {an organization which works to improve group interactions) separated the SCCinto three different groups. These groups were given different problems to solve by the leaders of Quest. Most of the problems re- quired group participation, but a few were individualized. Working together was the main idea for the day. Most people, after Quest, felt much better about themselves because of the difficult tasks they had accomplished. Mr. Gambill and Mr. Kalepp kept everybody busy throughout the weekend with games, sporting events, campfires, pumpkin carving, square dancing, and just all-around fun. They made sure that there wasn't a dull moment for anybody. There were four teams which par- ticipated in the competitive events. Points were given to the winner of each event, and the team with the highest amount of points at the end of the weekend received George Mason mugs. Everybody enjoyed these events and many thanks are sent to Mr. Gambill and Mr. Kalepp. Dr. Sprague taught the students parliamentary procedure. This pro- cedure is designed to make meetings run smoother. It also prepares students for any kind of governmental position which might be held in the future. A mock meeting using parliamentary procedure was held allowing everyone to strengthen skills. When the SCC headed for home from Camp Shilo, everyone hated to leave. The weekend helped everybody relate better to one another and to understand the tasks more completely that need to be ac- complished this year. Overall, the weekend was very much worth the time and effort spent preparing for it. Camp Shilo weekend is a major asset and should continue to be a tradition for the SCC in the years to come. 140 Duane Morrison = “But George Gambill and Kalep thinking for a change I lelegate negotiations underwa Dr Po. 1] aL. fx) és ‘oa -——s Jp a A 2 ee — wn oes Jp ” ae oe i ant — —e a. — PA pad O -_ -_ SWEET REVENGE — ' a? oe - . — : - 7 ey. rt = — - Oy qe AAU 25 is é i. : 2 4 we = Football: Left to Right.
