Commander DAVIS graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1955, subsequently attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and received his commission in 1956. Commander DAVIS was assigned to USS DUNN COUNTYCLST- 7421 where he served as Engineering Officer and later as Operations Officer. He was next assigned to Staff, Commander Amphibious Training Command, Pacific Fleet, ser- ving as Flag Lieutenant and Assistant Operations Of- ficer. Detached in 1959, he reported to USS AMMEN QDD-5271 as Gunnery Officer. In 1960 Commander DAVIS reported to COM- CRUDESPAC as Force Weapons Officer and later that same year was assigned to USS LOFBERG QDD- 759J as Weapons Officer and later Operations Officer. Commander DAVIS received orders to Fleet Gunnery School, San Diego, where he served as Training Officer and Executive Officer, then Officer in Charge until 1964 when he reported to the USS HOLMES COUNTY QLST-8365 as Commanding Of- ficer. In 1966 Commander DAVIS attended the Naval Postgraduate School for one year and then was assigned to duty in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operation, remaining in Washington, D.C. until 1969, when he became the first Executive Officer of USS GRAY CFF-10541. He was detached from USS GRAY CFF-10545 in 1971 and reported to the U.S. Naval War College at Newport, Rhode Island and after graduating in 1972 Commander DAVIS was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel until his detachment on orders to report to the USS GEORGE K. MACKENZIE CDD- 8361. Commander DAVIS is married to the former Carol Broughman. They have three children, Susan, Todd, Glenn, and are making their home in San Diego, California.
