OUR COLLEGE t THE NAME OF OUR COLLEGE WAS CHANGED BECAUSE — A. Confusion had existed for years due to the fact that many educational institutions on the Pacific coast were using the word Pacific. B. General demand that there be a change . The name of the school was changed because of a general demand that there be a change. This general insistence was fostered by the student body of the college, the members of the faculty, the Board of Trustees, and the general public interested in the school. n. THE NAME OF PACIFIC COLLEGE WAS CHANGED TO GEORGE FOX COLLEGE BECAUSE — A. The aim of the school is in keeping with the evangelical emphasis of George Fox, founder of the Friends Church in 1647 in England. B. We believe that God, through His providential leading, directed the college corporation in the choice of that name at its business meeting. C. We need a name that has distinction. No other college in the world bears this name. in. WE NEED GEORGE FOX COLLEGE BECAUSE IT IS INDISPENSABLE TO THE TASK WHICH LIES BEFORE US AS A CHURCH— A. We need George Fox College to train our young men and women who enter the ministry, or other positions of trained leadership. B. We need George Fox College to train our young men and women who enter other walks of life, to feel the same sense of loyalty to the church expected of ministers and missionaries. C. We need George Fox College to present the right interpretations of scholarship which depends upon the Christian viewpoint of life, and to emphasize that the Holy Spirit is needed to enable the student to recognize and relate properly the physical, social and spiritual laws of God ' s universe.

CHANGES NAME George Fox, founder of the Society of Friends, lived a prayerful life that was truly hid with Christ in God. Having unbounded faith in God and hu- man nature, he purposed to ex- tend Christ ' s Kingdom upon earth. Led by the Holy Spirit, he lived in the mid- seventeenth century a prophet ' s life and left to us an example of fear- less, devoted service that few have ever attempted to follow. Those that are in strife are out of Christ ' s doctrine; for He is the covenant of peace. —George Fox.
