X.. . A THE HARBOR The sun on the green of the slopes And the bay with its dancing rills And beyond, where the sky and the sea seem I can see a rift in the hills. Those mighty hills stand as a wall And I know not the world they hide, But twice a day through the rift in the hill, Comes booming in the tide. And through it too, my heart And my thoughts go out in fear, For while the hills shut the great world out They hold my loved ones near. Yet sometimes just at dusk When the mist comes in from the sea, There is one who stands at the rift in the hills And seems to beckon to me. AN Klwoglw- WINTER In each small vale, on brow of rounded hill, Along the rugged face of slope and height The dazzling' ice and snow lies cold and still, to meet, N WARDEN While covering all with mantle bleak and white. The stark and naked branches creak and groan Beneath the heavy hand of ice and frost, The bitter winds do shrilly blow and moan Like shrieks of tortured souls forever lost. 16
