QUARTERMASTER (OM) Quartermasters assist officers of the deck and navigators, act as steersmen and perform ship control functions. They also main- tain navigational instruments, oceanographic publications and charts, render honors and ceremonies, send and receive messages and serve as petty officers in charge of various small craft.
