Statesmen take 3rd in Northern Virginia, 5th in State AGAINST GROVETON, on a kick off return, Bob Hixon leaps high in the air to gain control of the ball. IN THE last three minutes of play, end, Ronnie Smith, pulled in a pass from halfback Howard Smith to set up a Marshall win over Groveton in our first homecoming game 19-14. TONY GALLAHER shows his finesse and determination to get the pass away while a Woodson tackier tries to down him. Tony ' s passing helped the Statesmen crush the Cavaliers in their first homecoming game 27-0.

HOWARD SMITH, Marshall ' s work horse, gets the call once more against Fairfax, the toughest defensive team in Northern Virginia. Howard proved his superb running ability by amassing over 200 yards which helped the Statesmen to nudge past Fairfax 3-0. HOWARD SMITH evades Clint Propst, but two other McLean tacklers close in as he runs around end for a seven yard gain.
