Director: Nlr. Cooper. The Genoa lligh School Band has thirty-seven members this year. It started out with twenty-two members at the beginning of the year and after Christmas gained fifteen more. On October 20, the band participated in the parade, and also in the skits put on during the half at the annual Band Day at Lincoln, Nebraska. On November 27, six other towns besides Genoa participated in the Band Clinic under the direction of Mr. Rex Conner, the guest director from Wayne State Teachers College. The Clinic consisted of practice all morning and part of the afternoon. At four o'clock a free movie was given at the school gym, it was the Stars and Strips Forever. That evening at eight a concert was given by the entire mass bands, and SOIUC of the individual bands played two numbers. Our guest conductor also entertained us with two well played solos on the tuba. On December 4-7 Mr. Cooper attended the National Music Clinic in Chicago, lllinois. On February 14, Mr. Cooper gave the band members a theater party and a treat at 'leeny's Cafe. It was greatly appreciated by everyone who attended. The Genoa Band will give its spring concert on March 155 and on April 2, will participate in the Music Festival held at Usceola. On April 12 and 13 the band will receive ratings on the numbers they play for the contest which is held at Albion. The band marched at a few football games this year and also played for the basketball games. The music department has provided entertainment for plays between acts and for meetings that have gone on at school -30..

The band is now working on a project by which they can raise money to buy new instruments for the music department and help to repair some of the ones they already have. Our director is new this year. The summer before he attended Wayne State Teachers College. lle has worked hard to stimulate interest in the band. A merit system has been added in which music letters will be issued to each of those who fill the requirements for first, second, and third class bandsman. It is hoped that those who just started band will work hard to eam all three bandsman letters, before they finish their Comlng years of school. Band officers are: President-janet Pearson, Vice-President-Gail Johnson, Secretary-Marece llockey, Treasurer-Larry McNeff. The Student Band Director is Marece liockey. The Mixed Chorus has forty-nine members this year and practice is held twice a week, on Wednesday and Thursday for forty-five minutes each day. Un January 18 and 19 fifty-eight music members went to Albion to join in the Choral Clinic. The first day and half of the next was spent in working up the songs. Dn Saturday evening a concert was given to the public and WJAG recorded the program. The Clinic was under the direction of the guest conductor, Mr. llarry Wilson of Columbia University, New York. Choral officers are: President-Connie Doss, Vice-President-Lynn Mcphaul, Secretary-Marece liockey, Treasurer- Cail Johnson. -31-
