Coach-Marshall Joyce. aoketlsall The basketball season started with 25 boys reporting for practice the first week. The Genoa boys opened their season at Fullerton, getting trounced 56-26. The boys played good ball the first three quarters, but gave up in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter to give the Warriors a chance to expand their lead. Dave Elm was high point man with 8 points. The second team lost 55-17. Wayne Kruse was high point man with 8. The next game was played on the home court with Silver Creek. The second team lost their second game in a row 34-22. ,lim lrwin pumped in 7 points to lead the scoring. As the first team came unto the floor they looked as though they were going to get revenge for them. As the game progressed the Genoa Boys seemed tired and Silver Creek managed to win 41-37. Bill Doe scored 10 points for high scoring honors. Dave Elm, Eyman Anderson, and Dean Beck each had 9 points. The lVl.B.N. Tournament held at Albion was next. Genoa drew a bye the first night . On the second night they played Neligh and lost 60-32 with Anderson and Elm scoring 11 each. On the last night Genoa met St. Edward and won 49-41, for the first victory of the season. They came home carrying a big third place trophy. The boys all turned in fine performances that night, and Coach Joyce was very pleased with the outcome of the tournament. After the tournament Genoa again played St. Edward, and again won 42-40. If it wouldn't have been for Gail ,Iohnson's fine shooting they might have lost it. johnson poured in 15 points while Elm and Anderson were close behind with 11 and 10 respectfully. The reserves were not quite so enthused about the outcome of their game. The Beavers romped over them 45-25. ,lim lrwin was high point man along with Jerry Koziol. Each scored 6 points in the contest. The next game was played at home with Albion. The Genoa boys looked as if they were out to win their third game, but Albion got the jump on them and went on to win 57-41. Eyman Anderson was high point man with 10 points. The second team made a better showing than the first team, but they also lost 36-34. Don Elm was high point man with 15 points.

v . l f.i- On November 2 the Genoa team was thinking more of football for they gave Stromsburg a hard hitting game that they won't forget for some time, but still they gave us a whipping 18-6. Again Smith hit the middle of the line for a twelve yard gain and a touchdown. The last game of the season was played on the home town field. This was the second game that Genoa played heads up ball, but they were not able to get by Glark's strong defense and lost the seventh straight ball game of the year. This gave a total of one win and seven losses. The score of this game was 18-0 in favor of Clarks. Seven seniors played their last football game for their high school career, and all seven played a very good game. The seven seniors are Bryan Smith, Gail Johnson, Don Schumacher, Richard Silverberg, Fred Samuelson, Dean Beck, and Richard Peterson. The next game was at Osceola. Genoa lost, but they never gave up. The score was 58-40. Bave Film poured in 10 points. The reserves lost 34-26. The next game was battled out at St. Paul on January 25. The Genoa boys just couldn't hit that night and lost by 25 points 31-56. 1.el1oy llockey led the scoring with 9 points. The reserves lost 37-54. ,lerry Koziol pumped in 18 points. The next game was played on the home court but the Orioles lost anyway. The score was 60-373 Johnson was high scorer with 8 points. The second team lost 54-40. ,lack Boss led the scoring with 10 points. On February 1 Genoa took on Clarks in a closely fought game, but they lost 48-37. Bockey and Johnson led the scoring with 10 each. The reserves came out on top with a 35-33 victory. Jerry Koziol had 9 points while Bon Elm was close behind with 8. The next ball game was on February 6 with Cedar Rapids. The Genoa boys again couldn't hit and lost 64-34. Anderson was high point man with 11 points. The second team played a good game, but lost 35-24. Jerry Koziol led the scoring with 8 points. Genoa played St. Edward for the third time on February 8 and won 38-35 Uave Elm poured through 14 points for the Orioles. The reserves also won their game 29-25. ,lim lrwin and Ed johnson each sank 7 points. Genoa played at Polk on the 15 of February and lost 63-41. Eyman Anderson was high point man with 11 points. The reserves lost 27-22, and ,Ierry Koziol was high point man with 8 points. Newman Grove traveled to Genoa to take another victory from the Orioles 68-37. Eyman Anderson and Bave Elm shared honors of high point man with 8 points each, while johnson and Bockey each had 7 points. The reserves won their game 49-39. .lim Irwin dumped in 12 points for high point man with jerry Koziol close behind with 11 points. Genoa traveled to Clarkson for the District Tournament. Genoa played Cedar Bluffs and lost 40-56. Hockey led the scoring with 14 points. Dave Elm was next with 12. Assisting with the equipment throughout the year was Richard Silverberg, the student manager.
