MUSIC Music has played a large part in the lives of the Genoa lligh students during 1955--56, under the leadership of their new director, Mr. Ramon Kofoid. The band was very active, participating in various activities. It furnished music for all the football and basketball games in Genoa and went to Fullerton and St. Edward to entertain the spectators on the football field during the half. The band attended Band Day at llastings early in the fall and played with 1200 other students under the leadership of Paul Yoder. On December 7, Genoa was host to six neighboring towns, for the Oth annual Dand Clinic. Donald Lentz, music in- structor from the ll. of Nebraska was the guest conductor. lle instructed the group in a day of practice. K The vocal department was also active, with selected groups fumishing music for the .lunior and Senior Class Plays, County Teacher's meeting, and the Farmer-Merchant Banquet. They played a large part in the Christmas program, furnishing small group singing and a chorus of all voices. The mixedchorus attended the Choral Clinic in Albion on January l3-14. All musical groups participated in a Pall Concert and Qpring Concert for the public. They attended the Goldenrod Festival in Dsceola, March 27, and received criticisms on the num- bers which they would present at the contest. The District Contest was held in Central City on April lf!-14. The band elected officers who were: President - llruce llasch, Vice-President - Ronnie Ericson, Secretary-Treasurer - Darlene Ditter, Librarians - ,lanet Pearson, Dean Deck. -29-
