Commencement Graduation exercises were held Wednesday, May 18. Rev. Thomas A. Barton, National Chaplain, V. A. Hospital, Grand Island, gave the address. Mr. Robert B. Conrad awarded the diplomas and Miss Krause awarded the scholarships. Helen Peterson was Valedictoriang Nancy Samuelson, Salutatoriang and Jackie Curtis, third, received the Norfolk Junior College Scholarship. Don Wells was winner of the Regents, altemates were Helen Peterson and Don Wrubleg and honorable mentions were given to Roberta Buck and Nancy Samuelson. Ralph Anderson was awarded the Commercial Club scholarship for achievement in agriculture. Sharlene Berlin re- ceived the Carl Raymond Gray scholarship for 4-H work. The Mixed Chorus sang two numbers. Rev. Donald N. Lindgren gave the invocation. Dick Osantowski, a transfer from David City High School, also graduated with the class. Some good performances were scored by all members of the track squad. Bill Shanahan set a record in the high jump at the District track meet where he jumped 5' 8 . Bill also threw the shot 41' 9 in the Platte Center, Genoa, Monroe Trian- gular. Bill Lowe tumed in good quarter in 54.8 at the district track meet. Ralph Anderson ran a 55.8 quarter on the same day. Bryan Smith vaulted twice to a 10' 3 mark in the 1955 season, a very creditable mark for a sophomore. Denny Sorenson ran the mile at the Columbus Invitational placing third with the time of 5:0O.5. Bill Lowe, Bill Shanahan, Gene Whitlow, and Ralph Anderson set a record in the mile relay at the Goldenrod Conference track meet. The time was 3.52.3. Other boys who lettered and turned in good marks were Donn Major, Henry Shotkoski, Gary Baue, Eyman Anderson, Dick Anderson, and Richard Dannelly. The squad won three trian- gulars, placed Sth in the Columbus Invitational, 3rd in the M,B,N,, 3rd in the Gold- enrod, and sixth in the District. Bill Shanahan qualified for the state meet. He tied for third place in the high jump in Class C with a jump of 5' SM . This marked the end of a very successful year in athletics for the Genoa Orioles.
