Success came to the reserves six times after the holidays. The season was over, but the air never had a chance to clear before tournament time. Genoa edged Central City 51-44 in the first game, only to fall before a seemingly unbeatable Loup City five, 75- 50. The lettermen this year were Hasch, Whitlow, Shanahan, Smith, Doe, Major, Dan- nelly, and Ericson. Coach Brown and his assistant coach Harold Sohrweid, along with students and fans, can be proud of the 1954-1955 Orioles' basketball teams, the Goldenrod Co- Champions of 1955. FIRST ROW: LaVonne Miller, Karlene Rupp, Irene I-Ioffmeister, Gloria Anderson, Suzanne Uehling, Ruth Atkins, Rosalee Freas, Sandra Skillstad, Joyce Stetz, Mary Ann Swantek, Margaret Garling, and Helen Czarnick. Not only do we have a physical education program for the boys but also an intra- mural physical education program for the girls. Thirty-four girls participated in a well- balanced activity schedule this year. Some of the stimulating activities includ- ed soft ball, basketball, volley ball, various types of relay races, and exercies. The program was sponsored by the coach, Marvin Brown, with the able assistance of Mrs. Zelma Coonley. The results of this program are two- fold. The girls learn to get along well with each other and learn the meaning of good sportsmanship. These attributes can be used most beneficially in later life. -25-
