26 to 6, Genoa's favor. The Fullerton Warriors defeated the Genoa Orioles 19 to O, at Genoa, in our third game of the season. Had it not been for a leaky pass defense Genoa would have given Fullerton a good game. Genoa's defense was led by Gene Whitlow, Richard Dannelly, Jerry Hoeft, Bill Shanahan, and Bryan Smith. Ronnie Ericson tumed in his season's best game at offensive center, while Bruce Hasch performed well at end. The Ofioles came out on top in its fourth game of the season by a score of 33 to O over Newman Grove. Bill Shanahan got into the picture by scoring a. touchdown. Lowe and R. Dannelly, playing fullback, also each scored a touchdown, along with the work of Leon Noble and Ralph Anderson. The caging of the Newman Grove Bluebirds must have made the team feel ready, for they came right back at Silver Creek and pounded a 47 to 7victory. Don Major ran seventy yards for a touchdown and Bill Shanahan dashed eighty yards for a touchdown. Maurer, Hasch, and Lowe each scored touchdowns. Genoa moved closer to the Goldenrod Championship by shellacking Osceola 18 to 0. Don Major scored early in the first quarter after receiving a lateral pass from Shan- ahan, while Bill himself scored two touchdowns. 'Gene'Whitlow and Ronnie Ericson tumed in good defensive performances. The Orioles won their seventh game at the city park. Genoa skinned the St. Ed. Beavers by a score of 27 to 7. All the boys made a good show of themselves, es- pecially, Bryan Smith-left end, and Bruce Hasch-quarterback. It happened! Stromsburg was the happy recipient of the breaks and beat a listless Genoa team 13- 12. These are the times that try men's souls! Genoa came right back at Clarks and won a share of the Goldenrod Conference Crown by a score of 19 to 7. The spectators saw the Orioles defeat Clarks in one of the best played games in three seasons. The Bombers, completely out-played in all departments, -saw Bruce Hasch, quarterback, and Don Major, fullback, tum in efficient offensive work while Bill Shanahan and Gene Whitlow turned in outstanding defensive work. Jerry Hoeft, who played only the first of the year, was selected as honorary game captain, while Bill Lowe and Don Major were selected as co-captains. The Orioles won seven games and lost two under Coach Marvin Brown, and Assistant Coach Harold Sohrweid. Dave Elm and Leroy Morris did a fine job of keeping the uniforms clean. This season will stand as one of the best in Oriole history. 'The students and the faculty will long remember with a warm feeling the Goldenrod Co-Champions of 1954!
