David Montfort. Coach Astlcs. The |V Wrestling team experienced moderate success during the 1977-78 season. Despite a losing record caused by inexperience and key injuires to Dan Miller, David Montfort. and Matt George there were many promising first year wrestlers who should help the varsity team next year. Among the outstanding |V wrestlers were Tom Parker. David Currie, [on Oyer, and Bill Bentley. Bentley and Parker were undefeated as |V wrestlers.

Swimmers bombard record board Above, lop to bottom- Andy Beaudry drives for a sectional qualifying score: Skip Kincaid picks up his leg of the relay: Tisser dreams of a 9 1 2 one day. Aliove right- Kenny prepares for flight. The (JUS Varsity Swim team came on strong again this year with a new coach. Roy Wooster. The team managed to break pool records at almost every home meet. The 200 medley relay pool record was broken by the team of Broderick. Carle, Beaudry, and Newman (1:49.4). Bob Beaudry holds the new pool record in the 200 free (1:50.8), the 200 1M (2:07.5). the 50 free (22.6). the 100 fly (58.6). the 100 free (49.9), the 100 back (59.4), and the 100 breast (1:05.6). Senior Alan Carle holds a new pool record in the 500 free (5:18.1). The team also won the Finger Lakes Relays, breaking three records and beating their long time rival. Weed sport. After the regular season closed, on February 18th, Bob Beaudry set two moot records in the Finger Lakes League swimming championships. Beaudry established times of 22.77 in the 50 free, and 50.07 in the 1(M) free in w inning both events. Alan Carle also set a meet record, capturing the 200 individual medley in 2:11.56. The 200 medley relay team of Geoff Newman. )im Broderick. Beaudry, and Carle combined for a meet record of 1:48.29. Geneva finished second in team scoring with 187 points. Wccdsport. a Section 3 small school swimming power, won the meet with 310. As a result of this same championship meet, senior Alan Carle was awarded the Finger Lakes League Coaches' Award as the league's outstanding swimmer. The winner of this award has to have achieved academically as well as athletically. Sports 27

A large majority of the most successful athletes at GHS are involved in weight training, a self-improvement program. Athletics are becoming so competitive and specific that they require a year round training program. Each member of the weight training club has a training program designed for his specific sport and strength level. The workouts usually last about two hours and are performed even.' other day.
