The Geneva High swimmers, as expected, showed marked improvement from previous years as a result of our new, much enlarged pool. Although winning only three meets (which is better than the past several seasons), the Panther Finmen often were not beaten until the last event. Co-captain Gary Voss was responsible for the breaking of three school records: the 100 yard butterfly and the 200 and 400 yard freestyles. In the Class B. sectionals, Gary placed fifth and sixth in the 100 yard butterfly and the 200 yard freestyle respectively. Also representing the Geneva team in the sectionals were Scott Smith, a third in diving, Tom Currie, sixth in the 100 yard butterfly, and the medley relay team, composed of Bob Myles, Murray Heaton, Tom Currie, and Joe Tandle, came in sixth. 26 The Senior Finmen.

However there were still bright spots as Coach Heard was very impressed with freshman John Deledonne and the Section 5 doubles team of Don Starr and Bob Lagana. Encouraged by the eager youths on this year’s team, Mr. Heard expects to have a more experienced team next year and perhaps a return to a championship season. 25
