In 1967 Mr. Morrissette coached a victorious cross country team for the ninth straight year. Led by sophomore Joe Griffin, the Panther harriers won three dual meets and finished fourth in league competition despite an early season injury to their captain, Laury Beinert. As only two of the varsity runners were seniors, next year Geneva High’s harriers should have an excellent chance to live up to their championship reputation which Coach Morrissette has created. 24

This year two winter sports excelled in tough sectional action. Steve Achilles won a Section 5 shield in wrestling after defeating Whitaker of Monroe in the semi’s and Pace of Corning West in the finals. The cagers also reached the finals in Section 5 competition as they finished second, beating Irondequoit, Corning East, and Monroe to earn a shot at the shield. However there were still bright spots as Coach Heard was very impressed with freshman John Deledonne and the Section 5 doubles team of Don Starr and Bob Lagana. Encouraged by the eager youths on this year’s team, Mr. Heard expects to have a more experienced team next year and perhaps a return to a championship season. 25
