DEDICATION AS A TOKEN OF OUR APPRECIATION, WE DEDICATE THE SENECA SAGA OF 1967 TO A MAN WHO IS SCHOOL SPIRIT, ENERGETIC DRIVE, AND A MASTER BUILDER OFMINDS. MR. GUERRA “A TEACHER AFFECTS ETERNITY; HE CAN NEVER TELL WHERE HIS INFLUENCE STOPS.” —HENRY ADAMS 4 TABLE OF CONTENTS PAGE 18 ACTIVITIES PAGE 42 FACULTY ADMINISTRATORS Mr. Spurgeon B. Wuertenberger Principal As you go down in history, I suspect you will be called the class of the great transition since in your junior and senior years you went through this massive rebuilding program. It would have been wonderful if it could have been entirely finished for your senior year. The best we can offer you is an invitation to return when you have the opportunity and vicariously share the benefits that will accrue to future generations of students. There is, of course, another “First” in your high school experience. That is the one represented by our very fine book, the Seneca Saga of 1967, which represents the first of what I trust will be a long series of fine senior high school yearbooks. As I write this some weeks before publication, word is already coming in of the excellent college admissions record which the Class of ’67 is establishing. I am sure that those who are training in business and commercial skills will make just as enviable a mark. Allow me, then, to extend to you my warmest wishes for your continued success in the years to come. To the Senior Class of 1967, congratulations! Although this has been a year of building with bricks, cement, metal, and wood, more than just new additions have been added to our school. You, your parents, and teachers have been helping to gradually produce a most cherished possession: knowledge and health. We are trying to create in your character honesty, courtesy, and a graceful acceptance of results. If you learn these traits well, you will be an asset to your community, to your future business or profession, and to your nation. In years to come, we know you will be proud to return to your Alma Mater. 8 Mr. Harold A. Bonesteel Vice-principal Dr. William S. Standing: Dinos Gioulakis, president; Julie Bonney, vice-president. In early October, as school rings suddenly sparkled on hundreds of fingers, the shy sophomores of ’66 burst into the dynamic juniors of ’67. This class scored even on the basketball court. Led by outstanding junior players, the GHS basketball team donned the Wayne-Finger Lakes crown. As winter slushed into spring, the juniors joined the sophomores and seniors in a door-to-door magazine campaign. After highlighting their year with a magical spring ball, the junior class stepped forward to claim seniority in ’68. 20 21 Left to right: Chris Smith, Bob Smith, Donna Sharp, Frank Quartaro, Ellie Rouse, Arnold Livingston, Karen Schubert, Fred Seward. SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS Seated: Marcia Levey, secretary; Helen Chiverton, treasurer. Standing: Phil Povero, president; Claire DerCola, vice-president. Entering GHS amid the thunder of construction, the sophomore class launched an active year. It’s chief money-making project was a stationery drive that left the community well stocked with personalized writing paper. Several bake sales were also held to supplement the class purse. During the Christmas season, Geneva’s sophomores spent long cold hours ringing bells for the Salvation Army. Later, participating in a school service program, they donated and packed crates of food and toys. To end the year on a springy note, the class of 1969 sponsored a people-packed sophomore hop. 30 Row 1: Kathy DeMatties, Sharon Gulvin, Tom Heatherly. The decisive win over the traditional rival, DeSales, to start the season, was an indication of Geneva’s potential. Led by an experienced group of seniors, the team settled down in the second quarter to completely dominate the play for the remainder of the game and grind out a 19-0 victory. The season’s finale, a big 27-2 victory over Penn Yan, earned Geneva the Penn Yan American Legion trophy which is presented annually to the winner of this game. The Penn Yan triumph, closing out the season for many senior members of the team, was indicative of their great determination and fire. 68 Geneva Opponent 12 Penn Yan 0 25 Waterloo 14 13 Clyde 15 14 Seneca Falls 8 6 Mt. Mike Ryan was chosen as the most valuable player by his teammates. He, plus Karl Roenke, Tim Ryan, and Bruce Teague were elected to Second Team All-Conference Berths. Among the choices for First Team All-Conference were Bill Abraham, Don Jones, and Jon Ryan. As GHS plunged into a titanic basketball season, the senior class operated a concession stand to quench the thirst of hoarse, screaming fans. For a week, red panther flags waved in the corridors as the senior class promoted the sale of pennants. After the basketball season slammed to a finish, the seniors held their annual ball, an Arabian night to remember. On March 10, smoothly delivered lines, delighted laughter, and heavy applause marked the opening of the senior play, Blithe Spirit. Finally in early June, a festive banquet commemorated the close of high school days for the Seniors. May their futures be imprinted with success. 1967, a beginning . . . 92 SENIOR AWARDS WILLIAM ABRAHAM—Regents Scholarship Alternate. JOSEPH ALAIMO—American Legion Award.
