As a money-making project in November, we took charge of the most popular spot at home football games—the refreshment stand. We also began work on our Junior Play, “The Egg and I.” The play itself was not a great success, although it did bring some promising actors and actresses into the limelight. Our class has distinguished itself in other ways, however. John Finley was Editor-in-Chief of Panther’s Pride and many other Juniors held important positions on his staff. The newspaper was even better than last year’s issues, which is a tribute to our class and to the new advisor, Mr. Duane Dumbleton. We also scored two important firsts. For the first time in the history of our school, two Juniors were added to the Seneca Saga staff. Linda Burgess and Carol Hessney both proved to be valuable workers. Also, for the first time in years, a Junior became G.H.S.’s winner of the American Legion Oratorical Contest. Rod Meyer did a fine job of representing us in the county meet. We topped off this satisfying year with our lovely Junior Prom in May. 1st row: Granger Wilson, Brian Whitaker, Doris Szkolnik. 2nd row: Walter Smith, Steve Wojchow-ski, Harry White, Joanne Zaso, Barb Williams, Linda Watling, Dave Weller. 1st row: Joe Borsa, Barb Moore, Dianne Nagcll, Norma Rose, Chuck Costa. 2nd row: Bill Yogt, Glenn Choffin, Leroy Carter, Paul Seward. CLASS OF '67 SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS: Pam Hogan—Treasurer, Lorraine Guerrie—Secretary, Joe Alaimo— Vice President, Jeff Youngs—President. Last fall all 275 of us entered Geneva High as the largest class in its history. Although bewildered at first, we soon became familiar with the building and acquainted with our new classmates. At pep rally contests we showed upperclassmen that we not only outnumbered them hut could out-yell them as well. After all, we Sophomores have some fine athletes in our ranks. To name just a few, there’s Herb Woody, Tony Puma, and Jim Moore on the basketball court, Frank Urbano on the gridiron, and Mike and Jon Ryan who play lacrosse. Dick Bentley has broken school swimming records, Louis Gigliotti was 2nd in Section 5 wrestling finals, and Roxanne Logue has competed in Madison Square Garden for girl’s track. We have participated in school government, too. Steve Achilles and Tom Geary are Associate Judges of Student Court. Our class also helped to set school policy by deciding whether to have a standardized ring for three years. We have had a notable year and are looking forward to spending another one in the new G.H.S.! 1st row—Steve Corcoran, Kristin Houser, Joanne Mariangelo, Debbie Mahoney, Chris Kregloh, Louise Lawson. 2nd rotv—Alan Theriault, Lenny Cecere, Dick Bentley, Jeff Abbott, Bill Neild. 1st row—Edith Ash, Kathy Anderson. DEFENSE was the key to the great success of the Panther 1964 Football Team. The “Big Red’s” fabled “Animals” dominated their opponents all season. Five times Geneva’s defensive unit erected “No Trespassing” signs in the end zone. With most of their opponents completely stymied, the Panthers rang up four straight shutouts. Although the Panther offense was not as spectacular as the defense, it always came through in the clutch. Geneva came into the big DeSales game with a perfect 3 and 0 record. The players responded to the enthusiastic school spirit, and shutout number four was recorded. The climax of the year was the bone-crushing title tilt with Lyons. With sheer determination and typical Geneva hustle, the Panthers shaded Lyons 8 to 7 and took sole possession of first place. In the entire league season, only two opponents even managed to score against the fabulous “Big Red”. These Geneva successes were attributed to an untouchable defense and inspired team play. As Coach Manners put it, “Everyone came up with a big play when we needed one.” Co-captains— Frank Woznick, 94 1st Row: Tony Mcringolo, Richie Brown, Mike Mahoney. 2nd Row: Bob Vogt, John Borsa, Mike Guerrie, Bill Deland, Bill Abraham, Bruce Johnson, Mark Hardesty, Alan Theriault, Dick Bentley, Jim Gulvin, Ed Goldstone. 3rd Row: Mr. Bill Hughes—Coach, Bob Meyers, Tony Crupi, Bill Buck, Fred Heath, Gary Hartman, Sam Doyle, Ed Leo, Steve Wojowsky, Chuck Rogers, Joe Davoli, Mike Ryan, Steve Cecerc, Pat Luzzi, Mr. Wayne Johnson—Coach. As in past years, the 1964 Geneva Harriers proved themselves a powerful unit. They placed a strong second in an unusually tough and well-balanced Wayne-Finger Lakes League. The team was led by Senior Mel Bonner, who set a new course record, and Junior Ted Barton, who placed seventh in the sectionals and earned a State Shield. The team, led by co-captains Mel Bonner and Tom Mahoney, entered the Dansville Christmas Tournament and advanced to the finals before losing. The Panthers’ best efforts of the season came in the first half of the season in games against the league leaders, Lyons and Waterloo, and in the first DeSales game when the G.H.S. Hoopsters triumphed despite a cold-shooting night. The climax of the season was a do-or-die playoff game with Canandaigua. At stake was the sectional berth. The Panthers proved themselves to be a tough team under pressure and won a second straight trip to the Section V Basketball Tournament. 100 j.v.
