DEDICATION To be glad of life because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars, to be satisfied with your possessions but not contented with yourself until you have made the best of them, to despise nothing in the world except falsehood and meanness and to fear nothing except cowardice, to be governed by your admirations rather than by your disgusts, to covet nothing that is your neighbor’s except his kindness of heart and gentleness of manners, to think seldom of your enemies, often of your friends, and every day of Christ, and to spend as much time as you can, with body and with spirit, in God’s out-of-doors, these are little guide-posts on the footpath to peace. FORE WORD As the yearbook staff of the Class of 1961 chooses a theme for this edition, it is acutely aware of the manifold crises rampant in the world today. It seems only too clear that the students of this class are approaching maturity at a critical period of history. Within their lifetime and thru the combined efforts of many nations, a peace—if only in name—has been established. As they prepare to take their rightful places in the world, it will be their duty not only to preserve this peace but also to promote it to a fuller, more complete peace for which the whole world hungers. Thus, it is only fitting that this Senior Annual, the last joint endeavor of the Class of 1961, be dedicated to the attainment of so solemn an objective. The struggle toward a universal peace—once the grave concern of parents alone—has now passed to them, the new generation of Americans. 7
