The Board of Education has put in a very busy year. They undertook the selling of a bond issue for the two new schools in the amount of $2,550,000 at the very low rate of 2.25%. This year also saw the awarding of contracts and the beginning of construction of the Geneva Junior High School and the West Street Elementary School. These ultramodern schools, when finished, will provide approximately 1600 pupils with classroom facilities. Mr. Houseman, Mrs. Fairfax, Dr. Odell, Mr. Michaels, Mr. Searles, Mr. Lindemann. The School of Education, at Cornell Uni- versity has co-operated with the Board in the inauguration of a training program for the prospective staff of the Junior High School. The Board also has had membership in four sessions of the New York State School Board Institute at Syracuse University. An extensive study of the financial needs of the School District for the immediate future has seen the completion of this year’s work.
I have always said that each class lingers in my memory in terms of some quality which characterizes the young men and women who, together, make up that indefinable immeasurable something called a “class.” The word for the Class of ’56 is “Effervescent.” I’ve never had a class that was bubbling over all the time like ’56. And I’m confident that as maturity settles its cloak of dignity and purpose over all of you, the energy that now just bubbles away will become the ocean that energizes a force for leadership in this great country of ours. My best wishes to you all. S. B. WUERTENBERGER. Congratulations and the best of everything to you. May the four years spent within the walls of this temple of learning be appreciated thru the years. ARTHUR J. McCANN. May I offer to all members of the Class of 1956 sincere congratulations and best wishes for continued success during the remainder of the school year and in the future. W. LYNN HOUSEMAN —• Superintendent of Schools.
