The students’ favorite project was the installation of a Coke machine for after school use. With a season plagued by the wrath of mother nature, the Varsity Gridders showed their strength by finishing with an 11-1 overall record. In the first two non-conference games Geneva defeated West Chicago with a comeback score of 21-12. Next, it was a humid victory over Glenbard South 23-7. Flying into the con- ference race, the Vikings started their march by defeating the Panthers of Oswego 47-25. Mother nature’s first strike came the following week at Sycamore when Geneva drenched” their opponent 40-12. Coming back for a fun and exciting homecoming, once again the Vikes crushed Kaneland 48-19. The most exciting game of the season was at Morris. In a cold and drizzly battle it looked dim for Geneva down by 2, one minute remaining, and Redskin possession, but with a Morris fumble it became a Cottier to Auchstetter to Swanson “Flea-Flicker” play that won the game, 27-21. Following Morris was an away victory at Waubonsie 28- 7. At home the next week, the Vikes copped the Conference title by defeating Plainfield in a two day struggle 14-0. To sum up the regular season, Geneva beat their neighbors, Batavia 48-0. In the playoffs, Geneva defeated I.C. 35-0, Harvard 26-3, and lost to Lisle in Mother nature’s final strike by a muddy score of 22-14. 103 (from left to right)Top row: Coach Tom Grubaugh. The freshman football team had another outstanding season despite adverse weather conditions. (Rain. rain, and more rain.) The game with Batavia was cancelled because of sloppy field conditions. Overall the team finished with 5 wins, 2 losses and one tie. Victories over West Chicago, Kaneland, Waubonsie Valley, Morris, and Sycamore and the tie with Glenbard South led the team to a second place conference finish. Coaches Burger and Burk worked hard to develop a well balanced attack which included both a strong defense and a tenacious running game. The extra point is good.
